Once the trail reached the spot all these tired hikers were coming from, it
continued on the road back to where we had left the car.
This was quite a
nice road, overhung with trees and boulders. Unlike most roads it varied
quite a bit in width, losing its centre line and squeezing between boulders
in one place, widening in another place to give cars room to take sharp
curves. Public Works had apparently decided it wasn't necessary to dynamite
everything away just so that the road could be an even width. We left the
packs at an information kiosk and walked back to the car with just a fanny
pack of water and gorp, feeling that backpacks on the highway were probably
not a good idea. We saw some people climbing on the boulders and Mare couldn't resist showing off but was not very successful with his big hiking boots.
